What's In Our CBD?

CBD

In the last couple years, CBD has blown up - finding its way into many household products including creams, cartridges, food & water, bath bombs, and even dog treats. According to Forbes, the Brightfield Group released an estimate indicating that “sales of CBD-based products will increase by an astonishing 700% in 2019”. As we roll out our highly anticipated CBD line, we know our fan base probably has tons of questions about this brand new cartridge and battery collection! After months of planning, testing, and preparation, we are excited to finally announce the launch of our CBD cartridges in four enticing blends - Original, Robust, Citrus, and Fresh!

What Is CBD?

CBD, also known as cannabidiol, is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found naturally in the flowers, leaves, and stems of the hemp plant. While hemp and marijuna come from the same plant species, the two are often confused. Marijuana possesses large amounts of the psychoactive compound known as “THC” - the component that will “get you high”. Hemp, however, has little to no levels of THC. Theoretically, you could indulge in hemp-laced brownies and not feel any effects. While hemp can’t offer us THC, it can offer us cannabidiol oil, or what we call “CBD”.

Cannabis Plant

We chose to create a broad-spectrum hemp distillate, served in a premium cartridge. You may be wondering why we opted for a “broad-spectrum” distillate, rather than a “full-spectrum” distillate, or even what the difference is between the two.

CBD Spectrums

Full Spectrum vs. Broad Spectrum

Full-spectrum hemp distillates contain more than a single naturally occurring cannabinoid. CBD Origin states full spectrum CBD contains all compounds found naturally occurring in the plant, including terpenes, essential oils, and flavonoids that originate in the starting material. This may include various levels of THCa, Δ9-THC, CBDa, CBD, CBC, CBG, CBN, THCV, Δ8-THC, CBGa & CBDV. Broad spectrum CBD, however, is a bit of a mix between Full Spectrum CBD and CBD Isolate. “Like Full Spectrum CBD, the other compounds found within the plant are preserved in the extract; however, like CBD Isolate, THC is completely removed.”

One concern we had with creating a CBD line was effectively being able to completely eliminate the THC component, which is what makes our distillate a bit different than your standard full-spectrum hemp oil. We spent additional time and resources to extract the full range of cannabinoids, while eliminating the residual THC that produces psychoactivity - also known as a broad-spectrum distillate.

With a broad spectrum distillate, our team was carefully able to hand select what we wanted from the entire spectrum. Our CBD cartridges are comprised of flavonoids, cannabinoids, and terpenes - nothing else. Broad spectrum distillates contain a specific mixture of naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids, but not everything from the original material. In doing so, we were able to carefully eliminate any residual THC from our formulas.

Hemp seed oil is generally produced by cold pressing hemp seeds to extract the oil within. These hemp seed oils have the least amount of naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids out of all extractable hemp. This process requires a large amount of starting material to produce a very low potency/quality concentrate.

Will Hemp Oil Get Me High?

For those of you wondering… NO! Hemp oil distillate will NOT get you high! Cannabidiol (CBD), and its related cannabinoids, found naturally occurring in hemp do not produce psychoactive effects; however, although we do our best to remove any and all THC from our products, we cannot guarantee the outcome that all consumers will pass a drug test, without triggering a false positive result. Best explained by the Courier Journal, the publication states “taking CBD can cause you to fail a drug screening if it simply tests ‘positive or negative’ for the chemical and doesn’t measure the amount”.
